About DIY Wind Power Kits

There are different types of wind power kits that are available nowdays  and these kits include different components, styles and price ranges.  Depending on how much power is produced, a package can range from a micro-turbine, to power a small cottage, or a comprehensive kit that has a large generator and battery storage capacity with output for a large home or farming operation.

Quiet Revolution Vawt

On the Internet, there is a 9.2 foot DIY package, 1000 watts with a ready to use, heavy duty 210 amp capacity rectifier and AC output connection kit that sells for $292.00.  It includes the fiberglass blades, the wind turbine hub, the 25 super strong, epoxy+nickel+copper+nickel magnets, wire and rectifier, to construct your own small home wind generator, with ease.

For remote users, a Bergey wind power system can cost $3825, and includes a 1KW XL.1 turbine with power center, 64 ft. tilt up tower, 5.3 kWh Battery Bank and 500 W Inverter system.  With 60-150AC Kilowatt-hours per month depending on the wind resource, this system is typically recommended for off-grid homes, schools or clinics and other locations where storing diesel is a problem.  It can be retrofitted to existing diesel-only power systems to provide 24 hour availability Wind Class 2 or higher.

Southwest Wind Power sells a system that can run up to $10,000, depending on size, but they are the world’s largest producer of small wind turbines.  Their Skystream 3.7 residential home wind power kit is designed specifically for a grid connected home, and excess power can be sold back to the utility company, or you have the option to use electricity when enough wind power is not available.

On Amazon, there is a Sunforce wind turbine package available for $800 that is capable of producing 400 watts, which is enough for a small cottage, RV or sailboat, for example.  Wind power kits are not only for residential use, but can be put to use anywhere that you have a need for portable power, and they are easy to install.

You can buy roof-top mounting kits and pole mountings to make your installation easier, in cases where you do not have enough ground, or for mounting on top of a high rise building.  No matter what type of package you decide on, you can adapt it quickly and install it easily, once you have a system to fit your needs.

Of course, there are plans and eBooks available on the Internet, to help you build your own wind power generator for a few hundred dollars, from components found in salvage yards, or through suppliers on the Internet.

It is possible for you to find a wind power kit to fit your needs that is affordable and easy to install, yet gives you the power you need to give energy to your entire house, or supplement your electric costs.  It is the affordable, easy to install alternative energy source for the future.
